Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Help Ukraine Gothenburg (HUG) has delivered 113 rescue vehicles to Ukraine. These vehicles operate across Ukraine's frontline regions, providing essential medical transport and emergency evacuation services.

Types of vehicles we deliver

Our fleet consists of various specialized vehicles tailored to different evacuation needs:

  • Ambulances – fully equipped for urgent medical transport
  • Evacuation vans – for evacuating civilians from frontline danger zones
  • 4x4 vehicles – to reach remote or hard-to-access areas
  • CASEVAC equipment – specialized for battlefield casualty evacuation

Each convoy we organize, every vehicle we send, is the result of Swedish donors, companies, and volunteers coming together to safeguard life under attack. These vehicles are now deployed in Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, and other frontline regions, where they respond to the most urgent medical and evacuation needs.

Behind the statistics are human stories

  • Fathers and mothers evacuated from shelling
  • Children rescued from danger zones
  • Wounded soldiers transported to receive crucial care
“Each ambulance is more than just a car — it’s a symbol of solidarity and hope, carrying life to those who need it most,” shares a medic from a battalion supported by HUG.

In 2024 alone, just two ambulances provided by HUG to Tactical Medicine North were used to evacuate 687 wounded people — nearly two lives saved every day.

International solidarity in action

Our impact is only possible because of the extraordinary dedication of Swedish partners, ambassadors, and volunteers.

The convoys would not have reached Ukraine without the support of Carl Johans Pastorat – Svenska kyrkan, Region Halland, Rotary Gothenburg, Mannheimer Swartling law firm, Deloitte, FSN Capital Partners, and many others.

We are deeply grateful to our ambassadors — including Henrik Saxborn (former CEO of Castellum), Emma Ihre (AP7 and Embracer Group), Per Josefsson (Nobel Foundation), and Jan Holmius (Mannheimer Swartling) — whose tireless work and advocacy have made many convoys possible.

We also extend heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers, who support us, help repair vehicles, load them with medical supplies, and drive them all the way to Ukraine, where they are personally handed over to medics.

From retired vehicles to lifesaving assets

Most of the vehicles we deliver began their journey as retired or surplus ambulances in Sweden — still fully functional and ready for service. In Ukraine, they become vital lifelines, filling gaps left by destroyed infrastructure and exhausted local resources. Each ambulance becomes a mobile bridge between trauma and care, hope and despair.

Why it matters

Ukraine’s healthcare infrastructure has been relentlessly targeted. By early 2025:

  • 116 ambulances were reported damaged
  • 274 destroyed
  • Over 2,300 medical facilities were attacked

In frontline areas, a working ambulance can make a real difference.

Join our mission

We call on Swedish regions, municipalities, companies, and individuals to join us in this life-saving work:

  • Donate vehicles that are no longer needed but still roadworthy
  • Support with funding for purchase, repair, and equipment
  • Volunteer to prepare and drive future convoys
  • Spread the word and help us amplify the impact

Every vehicle, every piece of medical equipment, every act of support matters. If you or your organization can help, now is the time.

Together, we can save lives.
