Delivering Hope: Trucks of Aid from Gothenburg to Ukraine

Every truck tells a story

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Help Ukraine Gothenburg (HUG) has organized and dispatched more than 160 trucks filled with humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Each vehicle carries not only tons of vital supplies but also a powerful message of solidarity: Sweden stands with Ukraine.

In 2024 alone, dozens of trucks left HUG’s warehouse in Gothenburg, bringing medical equipment, hospital beds, hygiene products, food, and even modular housing units to the regions most affected by the war. These deliveries are lifelines for hospitals, families, and soldiers at stabilization points close to the front.

Critical supplies for survival

The contents of the trucks reflect the immense needs of a country at war. Recent deliveries have included:

  • Medical equipment and hospital beds
  • Surgical tools, infusion pumps, and dialysis machines
  • Hygiene products for children and adults
  • Generators and construction tools
  • Food for civilians and even pet supplies

One recent shipment - truck number 164 - contained twelve pallets of medical supplies, fifteen hospital beds, and thousands of diapers for both children and adults. These items were distributed by our partners Operation Change and ETOC in Kharkiv to hospitals, shelters, and frontline stabilization points.

“These are not symbolic gestures. Every monitor, every oxygen mask, every surgical kit becomes part of a chain of survival. When we receive aid from Sweden, we know we are not alone.”  — Ukrainian doctor, Kharkiv region

Reaching the most vulnerable

The aid has reached more than 30 hospitals and care institutions across Ukraine, from Kharkiv and Sumy to Odesa and Dnipro. Deliveries also support Ohmadyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv and the Unbroken Center in Lviv, where children and wounded soldiers undergo advanced reconstructive surgeries.

“A colorful plaster or a sterile bandage may seem small, but for a child in pain it changes everything. These supplies give us the tools to keep working.”  — Pediatric nurse, Odesa region

Partnerships that make it possible

None of this work would be possible without strong partnerships. HUG has built a wide network of companies, hospitals, and private individuals whose contributions - from medical devices and hygiene products to funding and logistics - make every shipment a reality.

Among the many who have contributed are Essity, Bygg-Göta, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Västra Götaland Region, Human Bridge Foundation, PEAB, Lambertsson Sverige AB, Volvo Group and countless private donors. Their generosity ensures that shelves in Ukrainian hospitals are not empty and that frontline medics have the tools they need.

Building resilience, not just relief

Our mission goes beyond immediate aid. By reusing high-quality medical equipment from Sweden’s healthcare system, HUG gives these devices a renewed purpose - saving lives in Ukraine while promoting sustainability and minimizing waste. We also support long-term collaboration, such as knowledge exchanges between Swedish and Ukrainian medical professionals.

Help us to help

The war is not over — and neither are the needs. Every truck that leaves Gothenburg is another step toward survival and resilience for Ukraine.

We warmly invite companies, institutions, and individuals to join us. Whether through donations of medical supplies, financial contributions, or logistical support - every action counts.
