The tax declaration season (Inkomstdeklaration 1) is starting. Below are the most important dates from Skatteverket so you can plan calmly and not miss the opportunity for an early tax refund (skatteåterbäring).
If you have a digital mailbox (digital brevlåda), your declaration will arrive between March 2–6, 2026.
The last day to activate a digital mailbox to receive your declaration there is March 1.
From March 6, the declaration will also be available as a PDF on “Mina sidor” on the Tax Agency’s website — both for those with a digital mailbox and those receiving a paper version.
If you do not have a digital mailbox, the declaration will be sent by post to your registered address (folkbokföringsadress) between March 17 and April 15 (no later than April 15).
You can submit online (with BankID/e-legitimation) starting March 17, 2026.
Note: you do not need to wait for the paper letter to access the e-service — e-legitimation is sufficient.
March 31, 2026 — Last day to simply approve your declaration without changes to qualify for an early refund in April.
If you make any changes (for example, add or remove an attachment — bilaga), it counts as a modification and you will not receive the early refund.
May 4, 2026 — General final deadline if you do not have a deferral (anstånd).
If you cannot submit on time (for example, due to missing information or illness), you can apply for a deferral no later than May 4, 2026. The easiest way is via Mina sidor.
June 1, 2026 — Final deadline if you have been granted a deferral.
June 15, 2026 — Final deadline if you have byråanstånd (deferral through an accountant or accounting firm).
Make sure your bank account is registered with Skatteverket (anmäl konto). Otherwise, the refund may not be paid automatically.
