Can a person who is staying in Sweden under temporary protection obtain a residence permit based on family ties without leaving Sweden?

As a general rule, a person who wishes to obtain a residence permit based on family ties must apply for and receive the permit before entering Sweden. Staying in Sweden under temporary protection does not in itself mean that a person can automatically change to another type of residence permit.

Swedish legislation does, however, provide for certain exceptions. Whether an exception can be applied depends on the circumstances of the individual case.
